Helen Ferries (wife of Alexander Emslie) was baptised 27 February 1824. Her parents were James Ferries and Margaret Ross.

Erected by JAMES FERRES, carrier Strachan in memory of his father JAMES FERRES who died 4 May 1857 aged 72; also of his mother MARGARET ROSS who died the 15 January 1869 aged 72. Also the said JAMES FERRES who d. at Strachan on 17 August 1888 aged 62; also MARGARET DONALD his wife who died at Stonehaven 27 July 1921 aged 93. (note the proximity to the Emslie stones behind)

James Ferries (parents Alexander Ferries from the parish of Birse and Janet Aitken from parish of Lumphanan) was born 18 May 1786 in Strachan and died 4 May 1857 Strachan. On 17 December 1818 James married Margaret Ross (1797 - 1869 parents George Ross and Mary Robb).

James Ferries and Margaret Ross both in this parish contracted and married December 17th.
James occupation on the 1841 and 1851 census is given as cooper. On the 1851 census and on his death certificate he is also given as a church beadle.
James and Margaret had the following children:
